NOCTURNAL XMAS SPECIAL - 2007/12/18 17:08
NOCTURNAL XMAS SPECIAL Saturday 22nd December
T1: The Shapeshifters (4 Hour set) Cj Mackintosh Simon hawes
T2: Nodisko 4th Birthday Blowout Stephan bodzin Zak frost Magic jase Lazer
The Shapeshifters bow out of 2007 with a bang on Saturday 22nd December with the final chapter in their exclusive Turnmills residency - the Christmas Special!! Stockings, Mince Pies, Mistletoe, Santa’s little helpers... they’ve all been ordered, and to go along with some good ol’ fashioned festive cheer, the nocturnal crew have also put together a Christmas cracker of a line-up fit for the occasion. Taking place only a few days before the big day, this really is the last chance throw the mother of all parties, before it’s off to Grandma’s for extra pigs in blankets and a new knitted sweater.
Setting the musical tempo for the evening, The Shapeshifters lead from the front with one of their classic 4 Hour Sets. They’ll be backed up in the main room by Turnmills legend and all round house icon, CJ Mackintosh, plus nocturnal groove resident Simon Hawes. All in all, it’s been a rather spectacular year for The Shapeshifters. Their nocturnal night at Turnmills has proved to be a huge success, with 3 sell-out parties throughout the year and guests of the calibre of Martin Solveig, Dimitri from Paris, Miguel Migs and Jon Cutler. They’ve played major gigs throughout the summer including a live show at South West Four and a rocking DJ set at Global Gathering, plus the usual global circuit on tour and plenty more besides. On the production front, ‘New Day’ did some serious damage – taken from the forthcoming artist album (released early 2008) and drum n bass’s leading lady Jenna G joined the band full time.
On the guest front... CJ Mackintosh is a genuine bona fide legend of dance music and one of the nicest blokes to boot. He kicked off his career back in the mid 80s on the soul jazz scene, before later producing chart gold with the cut and paste classic ‘Pump up the Volume’. A record that marked the evolution of the DJ as something more than just the guy who changes records, Mackintosh was perfectly placed to ride the acid house boom. His DJing schedule hit stratospheric heights, resulting in a famed residency at MOS and over 20 years later, CJ is still wowing crowds around the world with his soulful selection. Turnmills holds fond memories of its own for CJ, who for 4 years was monthly resident at cult party City Loud and so it’ll be great to get him back behind the decks as The Shapeshifters’ special guest. Some might say Christmas has come early?
Some would definitely scream those words when seeing the name of tech-house pioneer Stephan Bodzin on the bill over in T2. The German superstar will headline the intimate space as special guest for top London promoter’s Nodisko, who’ll be throwing their 4th Birthday blowout with a heavy session for the heads. Bodzin made his name through his original production work and collaborations with the likes of Oliver Huntemann and Mark Romboy. He made his live UK Debut at Turnmills back in July to promote new album ‘Liebe Ist...’ and you could sense something special was happening that night as Stephan was not only mobbed everywhere he walked, but T2 was also at its busiest ever, as everyone scrambled to witness the great man in action!! We expect part 2 to be just as crazy, so whatever you do, do not miss it!! Stephan is the latest high-end guest to play Nodisko. Over the years they’ve had everyone from The Glimmers, Simian Mobile Disco, Headman and Kavinsky to Claudio Coccoluto, David Duriez, Lindstrom and Rub N Tug, so top draw DJs all the way. Nodisko is brought to life by residents Zak Frost (Drum Cult) and Magic Jase, with newcomer Lazer joining the (Christmas/Birthday) party!
Christmas is coming to Turnmills. Be joyful. Be Merry. Be involved!!
