Some frickin` music related posts (thread 1) - 2006/07/13 02:38
I`ve heard people say that, when social conditions are good, music tends to be more uplifting, happy, and apolitical. Conversely, when conditions are bad, music (and counter culture in general) tends to be more criticizing, forward-thinking, and deliberate. Would this mean that, with a flaccid economy, rampant corporate and religious corruption, and war just around the corner, the shiny-happiness of trance, happy hardcore, and house will fade into something more vital? Don`t get me wrong, I love each of those genres, but certainly they are not as cerebral as techno, industrial, and drone (which I`ve heard a lot more of lately). Perhaps, as the "party!" vibe fades from view, a more directed "revolution!" vibe will replace it? Already, the pay-$25-to-act-childish mentality is shrinking from sight while more avant-garde underground movements are rising in the fertile ground of discontent.
