Caught them a few years ago w/ Orbital... definitely a tight show.
The party scene has indeed died down considerably in Philly. The scene here used to be great, but a variety of reasons has made it difficult for promoters to throw parties here.
There used to be a kickin` underground/outlaw scene in Philly too, it probably still exists altho would be run by different people (the old heads have moved or lost their venues)... I`m out of the loop these days tho so I don`t know.
It`s still a great city for Drum `n` Bass, one of the best actually... if you`re 21+, Dieselboy throws a weekly party that often features top UK talent for like $5 cover (and Diesel spins all the time too

Substitution also throws some great parties, see www.substitution.net .
I`d recommend avoiding parties thrown by Motion and Ravegear. I`ve found their events to be low quality, and are mostly attended by young kids who don`t go for the music.

Re:Any one from Texas? - 2006/07/12 17:38 Roni Size/Reprazent there, and also Juno Reactor... it`s definitely a great venue, although the floor setup sometimes doesn`t work too well for dancing space. normally that venue kinda stinks, its a great size but the management + security are evil, evil mofos. 4th Street -- if I remember correctly, it`s right next to 611 Records, near the intersection of 4th + South St.
Fluid is somewhat small, so dancing can be difficult. But the cover price is so low that it`s well worth it.
Dieselboy doesn`t spin there every single thursday (sometimes he`s out touring the US) but on days when he`s not there, there`s usually big UK headliners. There`s usually line-ups on http://www.platinum215.com/ , but I think it hasn`t been updated in a while. 611 Records should have fliers w/ up-to-date lineups tho.

Re:Any one from Texas? - 2006/07/12 19:26 on the flier, looks like Sound Alliance and 215Noise are throwing it, they`re two of the best crews in philly. Sound Alliance is some great breakbeat DJs, and 215Noise is a crew that throws underground hardcore/noisecore stuff.
One of the DJ`s on the flier (Rory_J) lives down the street from me, I`ve known him for 15 years

Haven`t talked to him in a while tho, probably why I didn`t hear about this party earlier. Sadly I can`t go to it, I`m goin back to school this week so I`ll be in Baltimore until next May.
