need advice on bookings... - 2006/06/17 10:57 We are planning a big local event (we`re in Hawaii) most likely at the end of the year (if not beginning of next) and we would like to book a headliner to DJ and fly them down. Initially while trying to consider who we want to headline, we we were considering the likes of either Tiesto, Paul Van Dyk, Sasha, or John Digweed. I was wondering if anyone had at least a rough idea of what the current rate is going for these guys. Anyone know roughly what one of them would cost us (considering their schedule makes them available).
Considering it might cost us a fortune just for one of the headliners above, we`re thinking maybe we could turn to someone like Sandra Collins, Carl Cox, or maybe Dave Seaman. Still big names, but perhaps it wouldn`t cost us as much?
I don`t know. Since there`s time between now and the event, we`re keeping the date flexible and focussing mainly on the headliner. Can anyone give me any info or input as to current going rates and such. Thanks for your help.

Re:need advice on bookings... - 2006/06/17 14:47 perhaps you hadn`t heard but Carl Cox was considered not too long ago to be the biggest DJ in the world. It doesn`t sound like you`ve been doing this booking thing long. You should contact Balance at www.balancepromotegroup.com to inquire about availability and costs. I think you might be shocked to see what big name djs are paid. mentioned get booked far far in advance. 6 months isn`t leaving yourself a lot of time.

Re:need advice on bookings... - 2006/06/17 18:10 IMHO, most of the DJs you mentioned sound very similar, so I guess just go for whoever is cheapest. I`ve heard that Sasha isn`t as good as Digweed these days, since he took a long break from spinning (injured eardrum or something? I forget what the story was).
In any case, I`m pretty sure most of the DJs you mentioned cost 5 to 10 grand (or more!) for a set. I don`t know if that`s including airfare + hotel room or not, either. Basically, they`re ridiculously pricey.
Also, talent agents for superstar DJs won`t allow you to book them unless you`ve booked some of their lesser talent first. Some of the talent companies are majorly anal about this. For example, Ultraworld Productions has been throwing massive parties (a few thousand people) twice a year for like five years now, and they STILL can`t get Sasha, Digweed, etc.
Personally, I`d recommend going for a non trance/house headliner... the big names in other genres cost significantly less, and are a lot more talented
