OT: Skahound`s Book Club - 2006/06/08 06:17 I`ve seen some posts from some of you regarding book, movie, music, etc. suggestions so I thought that I would add mine.
I`m in the process of reading a book titled "Far Journeys" by Robert A. Monroe (non-fiction). I have to be 100% embarrassingly honest with all of you...I`ve completely read one book my entire life (not counting reading Moby Dick, etc. as an entire class in high school) and it was "Murder on the Orient Express" by Agatha Christie. I just have to tell you that the book I`m reading now is absolutely mind-blowing. If you consider yourself marginally open-minded to the idea of astral projection (no, not the psytrance guys) or out-of-body-experiences I urge you to check out this book. It is circa 1984 but is just incredible in its depiction of the experiences that groups of volunteers encountered while in a controlled environment.
If anyone out there has read this book, please let me know what you thought of it...I`m having a really hard time putting it down and it`s starting to affect my social life!

Re:OT: Skahound`s Book Club - 2006/06/08 09:00 Thanks for posting this. I`ve been trying to get back into reading more lately and I would love to read a recommended book regarding astral projection. I was actually just talking to my mom about book clubs the other day. It seems unfair that most book clubs are aimed at middle-aged to senior-aged folks and there doesn`t seem to be a whole lot available in that sense for 20s and 30s. We should maybe start something here in which everyone reads the same book and we can then discuss it. How`s that sound to you all? Just a thought! Erika RollerGirl

Re:OT: Skahound`s Book Club - 2006/06/09 13:52 compared to the book (but then again I find that to be the case 99% of the time)
My recommendation... `Last Night a DJ Saved My Life`, interesting if pretty poorly written.

Re:OT: Skahound`s Book Club - 2006/06/10 13:01 It`s called "All the Rave" and here`s the blurb from the back cover:
"It was the first night of the Memorial Day weekend and Kat Koffman figured she`d dance the night away at a massive, East Coast rave. She`d go to the beach in the morning with friends from school. At least that was the plan. But when classmates Jodi Adams and Bruce Arnold found her, Kat lay unconscious on the second floor of a rat infested warehouse. Beside her was an empty syringe--and a dead boy. Jodi wanted answers--and justice. How did the boy die? Was Kat next? Why did the syringe look familiar to Bruce? And why did the police refuse to help? Nothing could prepare Jodi for the fact that some kids are worth more dead than alive. And, just when she thought she`d uncover the truth, she got more than she bargained for. The Russian Mafia." $8.35 from Amazon.
Though, if you ask me, you could not pay me to read it. Granted, I`m judging a book by its back cover, but I`d stay the hell away from it unless you like books that are, as we say in the literature biz, "hella crappy".

Re:OT: Skahound`s Book Club - 2006/06/10 20:36 One book that I didn`t think was terrible and it was a roundabout way of discussing the rave scene was a book called "The Ecstasy Club" by Douglas Rushkoff. Not the best book in the world but also pretty fun for a light read. Erika RollerGirl

Re:OT: Skahound`s Book Club - 2006/06/11 05:13 Damn Stan I was betting it was fiction all the way until the Russian Mafia part...anything that mentions the Russian Mafia must be true!

Re:OT: Skahound`s Book Club - 2006/06/11 20:13 There`s a stunning picture of the front cover. I am shocked that you would suggest I post something to alt.rave that isn`t 100% fact. You have assaulted my family`s honor. Perhaps we shall duel to restore pride to the rightful party.
