DESCRIPTION: UK house standout J Fader returns to Panama Red with a full EP follow-up to his remix for Antonio Caballeroās previous āNext Upā single. Fader gets to work right away with a jumping, San Francisco house influenced track āJazz Thing (Aināt Misbehavin)ā, the jazzy piano and vocal snippet nicked from Ellaās standard, āAināt Misbehavināā brings the Harlem Renaissance right in to the 21stCentury and out on the dance floor, making it sound relevant and fun for times as uncertain as they were way back in the Thirties. Chicago legend Greg Norwood opts for a tougher, leaner version on his remix. Big loping bass lines and wicked congas replace the jazziness of the original, but Norwood still wisely retains the vocal snippet for a sweet breakdown.
The second original, āSassigo Discoā, is a chunky bass line house cut with sweeping filters and punchy horns in the classic deep house tradition. The vibe is soulful and bright, perfect for any crowd. Emerging producer Arek Zagdan adds a techy flourish to his remix of the track for a deeper, heady side of swinging Chicago house via Warsaw.
āBounce For Meā closes out the release on a high note with a third solid original on an already stacked EP. The horn accents keep the jazz feel intact throughout but the bass line and subtle melodies give this a hidden b-side bonus kind of feel, one to have in the crate for that special late night moment and keep the trainspotters guessing. Label owner Antonio Caballero saves the best for last with a roughed-up remix of āBounce For Meā that packs a funky wallop with a huge wobbling garage bass line and filtered horn line hooks. Itās a perfect ending to another must-have house music collection from Panama Red Records.

ABOUT J FADER: Five tracks and a total of eight mixes here from rising UK talent J Fader, who hails from Portsmouth ā not generally known as a hotbed of house talent ā and who's had stuff out before on Clean House and Slick Music (it says here).
For our purposes today though, we're gonna have to treat Mr Fader (I very much doubt that's his real name, don't you?) as an unknown newcomer⦠which makes the quality of the music contained herein all the more pleasing. Cast your mind back to a time around 1995 or so, when UK garage was just on the brink of emerging but hadn't quite yet fully distinguished itself from US house ā think early productions by Booker T as Underground Mass, Grant Nelson, Fran & Ricky in various guises, Gavin M in his 'DJ Face' days, etc ā then you're somewhere in the right ballpark as regards the overall vibe here. Not going to go into individual tracks one-by-one cos there's too many of them, but the EP as a whole is long on crisp, skippy beats, live-sounding basslines, warm pads, jazzy minor-key piano licks, yada yada yada⦠you get the idea. If you remember the days when UK garage had more in common with the deep house scene, long before loads of hip-hoppers came in and spoiled it⦠well, you're gonna love this. Class in a glass⦠of Moet, natch. RUSSELL DEEKS (former editor of IDJ magazine)
FEEDBACK Merlyn Martin [Subdivisions Global Radio] Jazz Thing Original for me - Solid!
DJ Nova [RodonFM] Doooep EP. Floor and bar friendly tight house works and remixes. Mad jazzy ''Jazz Thing'' with Ella's Fitzgerald original sampler on the breakdown is ace and its latinized remix by Greg Norwood with all those percussions already stole my heart. Jackinā, swinginā and jazzy āāSassigo Discoāā Original aims to make you sweat on the dancefloor and Arek Zagdan Remix offers a more sofisticated version. āBounce For Meāā original is a pure underground jazz influnced track but its remix by Antonio Caballero Remix forward it to the right dimension, a funky key and fat and strong bassline makes it wicked.
Felix Jr [Ibiza Global Radio] Incredible EP
Sebastian Ese Very Hot Ep! Good work sampling Ella on Jazzy Thing. Loved the crazy bass line on the remix for "Bounce for me"
