This weekend @ The Lightbox - 2009/09/16 13:42
Gouranga presents the inaugural GAG awards recognising the coming of age (Genbuku) of the best young stars of Techno and House. Taking place at the mind boggling Lightbox in Vauxhall. Having previously brought you the likes of Minilogue, Tim Sheridan, D-nox and Beckers, Miles Dyson, Wolfgang Gartner and Defex. We now after a summer full of musical inspiration and contemplation come back with a slinky bang.

The GAG awards are a showcase of the pioneering young blood shaking the underground establishment. The categories include OG AWARD / BEST LIVE TECHNO / INTERNATIONAL WUNDERKIND AWARD / BEST NORTHERN RESIDENT. In celebration of the awards the artists will be showing you their skills in the midst of 15,000 LED lights.

Gouranga will be hosting the second room bringing you a supersized dollop of wonk. Alongside resident Malcolm Murra we will be welcoming back Why I impresario Ali Haszlak - freshly returned from adding a music production course to his dazzling DJ technical capabilities. Disco Stu will be making his long anticipated Gouranga Debut - ensuring our room will spend as much time building up the ambience as a Scotsmen battering a mars bar. His dancefloor orientated style is one of his many admirable traits we know you will enjoy.

OG AWARD ==== TRAVOR JACKSON - Output Records Impressario

We will be recognising Trevor's dedication to music by awarding him the OG Award for his huge contribution to the London scene. His Output Record label was founded in 1996 and found success releasing the likes of The Rapture, Black Strobe and LCD Soundsystem After closing down Output in 2006 (RIP) Trevor's DJ skills, insane knowledge of music and ability to create a party remain firmly in tact. He shall bring a sensei's know how to proceedings.

BEST LIVE TECHNO ===== SPEKTRE - veryverywrongindeed

Their sinful sounds draw inspiration from early R&S releases, Joey Beltram, right through to modern masterminds such as M.A.N.D.Y, Plasmik and Trentemoller. They use their combined experiences of minimalism to produce dark sinister sounds mixed in with twisted vocals and unnerving foundations, whilst remaining accessible to the crowds.

Connoisseur of the scene Oliver Huntemann, snatched up Spektre’s early releases for his own label “Dance Electric.” Since then the pair have earnt admiration and support from Sven Vath to Tim Sheridan, Audiojack to Fergie. Championing their sound, tracks such as “A Glimpse Outside” became immediate hits - launched straight onto DJ Mags cover cd. Further successes like “Haze” and “Minimalist Machinist” gained huge popularity in the clubs internationally, played by the likes of Mike Monday and Audiofly while one of Spektres offerings “Hover” was thrashed out at Cocoon by the legendary Sven Vath on New Years Eve, sure signs that this pair had indeed arrived.

An exciting future lies ahead for Spektre with their debut album released to Tim Sheridans VVVWI recordings, pushing them out onto that minimal edge even further. Alongside a demanding release schedule on several different labels, one thing is certain, this year Spektre can do no wrong. This year they have been at the forefront of British Techno with their spot on production gaining huge success with techno lovers across the globe. A Spektre remix lines many a big tune DJ's bag after there releases this year.
