When you hear that Daft Punk is going to release a new album it makes you want to run to the music press to find out when it will be released. They have contributed so much to the house music scene over the years.

1997 was a very exciting year with their release of Homework and 2001 would have surely lacked in the House/Pop genre without their Discovery album. Unfortunately the release of their third and much anticipated album comes a big let down. Human After All falls way short of expectations and seems to be nothing more then an album needed to fulfill their obligations to the record company.

This album was recorded in a mere 6 weeks, which in a lot of ways can explains the complete lack of substance in all ten of the tracks. Overall it sounds like 10 demo songs that were not good enough to be put on the last album.

In a subtle attempt to ridicule the modern day dependence on technology the track "Technologic" seems to use similar cut and paste samples of vocals as "Harder Better Faster?" but completely fails to ignite the same spark as many of its predecessors.

There is surely no dance floor demand in this one.

Throughout much of the album there is a sort of anti-technology premise. In "Television Rules the Nation" we find a boring loop of the song's title with the backdrop of a repeating beat.

The track "Emotion" which is the lat song of the album we are bombarded with 6 long minutes of slow beats and a four chord trick put through ever-present filters.

The "saved the day" track entitled "Robot Rock" seems to be this albums only good quality. This song is representative of the Daft Punk we all know and love. What appears to be a song developed for the dance floor, this track provides extreme guitar riffs and booming breaks that scream recklessness. This is one great song that we wish spilled over to the rest of the album.

Disregarding the thesis (Human After All?) of this album, Daft Punk has brought to the table one very machine like sounding album. This album screams 2001 and completely lacks in innovations and creativity. If you were planning to buy a new house album and have not got this one already then we suggest you spend you money elsewhere.
