The recording industry has been battling MP3 loaders for some time, in an attempt to reduce the scale of copyright infringement. The latest step in this ongoing war is to ask ISPs (Internet Service Providers) to freeze the accounts of known music file swappers. But this is no use as ISP's preffer to turn a blind eye.
In spite of the BPIs (British Phonographic Industry) protests and the evidence they have provided in favour of battling the music downloaders, many ISPs continue to turn a blind eye to the problem, ignoring what the BPI considers as their responsibility to stop illegal file-sharing. In response to these accusations both Cable & Wireless and Tiscali issued statements, the first promising to take whatever steps are necessary to put the matter right, the later stating they are reviewing the information provided by the BPI and promising an appropriate response.
But now, as radio stations join in and set up Internet sites and new music swapping forums are opened on the web everyday, who knows how this may end... |
